Meet the Staff

Jim Bethke

Director of JAD
Jim Bethke was appointed Director of JAD in October 2019. Prior to his role with JAD, Bethke served as a prosecutor, general council of the Texas Municipal Courts Education Center, The Executive Director of the Texas Indigent DefenseCommission, and the Chief Defender of the Lubbock Private Defenders Office. He is a U.S. Army veteran from the 101st Airborne Division, received his BS from the University of Texas at Tyler and received his JD from TexasTech University School of Law.

Ana Yanez Correa

Deputy Director for JAD
Ana Yanez Correa has served as Deputy Director for JAD since June 2020. In this role, Ana manages the policy team, assists the Director and others on the team in developing and implementing the Department's strategic direction, maintains relationships with stakeholders, and oversees the public education, outreach, and policy research effort of the Department. Ana has earned a BS in Criminal Justice and a Master's Degree in Public Administration from Midwest State University and she also holds a Ph.D. from the University of Texas.

AJ Roy

Data & Technology Deputy Director
AJ Roy has served as Data & Technology Deputy Director for JAD since February 2020. He manages all technology and data related work performed by JAD. He received a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Illinois.

Stephanie Armand

Program & Special Projects Administrator
Stephanie Armand is the Program & Special Projects Administrator and has been with Harris County since 1993. She supports the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council, the Safety + Justice Challenge Grant, and specializes in business processes in the criminal justice system. Stephanie has a B.S. in Criminal Justice from the University of Houston.

Colin Cepuran

Research Policy Analyst
Colin Cepuran has been a Research Policy Analyst with JAD since September 2020. At JAD, he specializes in policy related to pretrial policy, violence prevention, and emergency response. He received a PhD from Cornell University, and a BA from Kalamazoo College

Brandi Ebanks Copes

Racial Disparity & Fairness Administrator
Brandi Ebanks Copes joined the JAD team in January 2020 serving as the Racial Disparity and Fairness Administrator. She received her MPA from Cornell University, and a BA from Loyola University New Orleans.

Bryonne “Bree” Cummings

ODonnell Consent Decree Project Manager
Bryonne “Bree” Cummings has been the ODonnell Consent Decree Project Manager since September 2020. She received her MA at Avila University in Kansas City where she also earned her certificate in Project Management.

Elizabeth "Lizzie" Duemig

Law Enforcement Specialist and Researcher
Elizabeth "Lizzie" Duemig joined JAD as a Law Enforcement Specialist and Researcher in April 2021. At JAD she specializes as an in-house expert on law enforcement best practices. She is a Master Peace Officer certified through the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE). She received her Ph.D. in Forensic Psychology and MPhil from Walden University, an MEd from Florida Atlantic University, and a BA from Binghamton University.

Karen Evans

Community Engagement Manager
Karen Evans has been the Community Engagement Manager with the JAD team since March of 2020. She specializes in promoting community solutions to racial and ethnic disparities in the criminal justice system. Karen has a BA in Political Science with a minor in Pre-Law from Alcorn State University.

Perlo Gernale

Senior Data Warehouse/Business Intelligence Developer
Perlo Gernale joined JAD in July 2020. As a Senior Data Warehouse/Business Intelligence Developer, Perlo focuses on indigent defense, criminal justice equity, and pre-trial services. He graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a BBA in Management Information Systems.

Mike Giordanelli

Budget & Grants Manager
Mike Giordanelli has been the Budget and Grants Manager with JAD since October 2020. He earned a BS in Computer Science and a Major in Mathematics from Trinity University.

Kelly Venci Gonzalez

Youth Justice Policy Analyst
Kelly Venci Gonzalez has been with JAD since April of 2021 and serves as the Youth Justice Policy Analyst. She has her Juris Doctor from Syracuse University College of Law and Master’s degree in public administration from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University. Kelly has her BA in sociology from the University of California at San Diego

Laura Hogan

ODonnell Sr. Data Analyst
Laura Hogan serves as ODonnell Sr. Data Analyst for JAD since November 2020 and serves as a liaison between JAD’s data, policy, and communications team. She received her BBA in Accounting from the University of Houston.

Veronyka James

Survivor of Crime Researcher/Specialist
Veronyka James has been with JAD since November 2020. Veronyka serves as the Survivor of Crime Researcher/Specialist. She received a PhD and MA from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and a BA from the University of Redlands.

Phebe Jaiyeola

Senior Data Analyst/Front-End Developer
Phebe Jaiyeola joined JAD in May 2021 as a Senior Data Analyst/Front-End Developer. She has earned a Bachelors in Accounting from Crawford University and a Masters in Finance and Management from University of Essex.

Lindsey Linder

Justice Policy Research Analyst
Lindsey Linder has been a Justice Policy Research Analyst with JAD since October 2020. At JAD, she specializes in policy related to indigent defense and alternatives to incarceration. She received a JD from Southern University Law Center, and a BA from the University of Louisiana at Monroe.

Laura Lucas

Communications & Media Relations Manager
Laura Lucas has been with JAD since September 2020. Laura serves as JAD’s Communications and Media Relations Manager. She has a BA in communications and media production from the University of Houston.

Alex Oulapour

Senior Applications Architect
Alex Oulapour joined JAD in March 2021 as Senior Applications Architect. He has a BS in Computer Science from McNeese State University.

Kristina Vera Robertson

Executive Assistant
Kristina Vera Robertson has been with JAD since October 2020. At JAD she is the Executive Assistant to the Director and works on different design elements and print for JAD. She has a BA in graphic design from Art Institute of Houston.

Matthew M. Sweeney

Research Policy Analyst
Matthew M. Sweeney has been a Research Policy Analyst with JAD since September 2020. At JAD, Matthew specializes in law enforcement policies, procedures, and oversight. He received his PhD in Criminology and Criminal Justice, with a specialization in Terrorism Studies, from the University of Massachusetts Lowell.

Vidya Thotangare

Datawarehouse Developer
Vidya Thotangare has been with JAD since November 2020. She serves JAD as a Datawarehouse Developer and works on Data analytics for O'Donnell Consent Decree. She graduated from Mumbai University (India) with a BS of Commerce.

Naomi Walker

Administrative Services Manager
Naomi Walker has been with JAD since it was created by Commissioners Court in October 2019 and with Harris County since 2000. She serves JAD as the Administrative Services Manager and is responsible for HR matters, payroll and office management.

Natosha Willis

Justice Policy Research Analyst
Natosha Willis joined JAD as a Justice Policy Research Analyst in May 2021. She received her Ph.D., M.Ed., and BS from The Ohio State University.
